Some things in the rooms need minor renovations, which are quick and inexpensive to do, so I'm surprised they haven't been fixed (e.g., a torn part of the window, a door that doesn't close properly letting corridor light into the room at night, peeling wallpaper, and moldy/dirty silicone in the bathroom). There were no vegan options for breakfast. A buffet would have been better; instead, there were only about four options to choose from, which had to be ordered from the staff. You also couldn't make your own coffee or tea and had to order those as well. Overall, I didn't appreciate the stuffy atmosphere of the place, but I understand that it's part of their philosophy.

Beautiful garden and lovely historic building. The rooms were very clean, and the bed was comfortable. I felt safe during my stay. The service from the ladies was very nice, though the gentlemen were quite stiff in their manner, and there was a long wait for everything.

Room was remote from the main building (which we knew) and the pathway had lots of puddles and was muddy due to heavy rain which meant we had to walk on the wet grass to get to the restaurant. Room was rather chilly when we checked in but did warm up quickly once the heating was turned on. Breakfast was very disappointing as all the food we were served was cold and clearly not made to order.

There were some small issues with the room which I shall be raising with the hotel direct.

The breakfast was delicious. I am Coeliac and was catered for very well. All staff members were courteous and keen to help and assist. The atmosphere within the hotel was very good.

I think the dinner was overpriced what it was, not the quality I would have expected from Chez Roux level. Also breakfast could have been better, I expected more options.

The location is lovely, very close to the beautiful Gullane beach. The room was also beautiful, clean, the bed was very comfortable. I like the fact that the hotel was small and intimate, full of history. The gardens are also very beautiful.

The pot-holes in the drive. The room was very cold when we arrived and took a few hours to heat up. We would have preferred that the heating be turned on sometime prior to our arrival. The combined fan and light switch in the bathroom meant disturbed sleep. The light switches were not easily accessed. One bulb was strobing.

The food was fantastic. Free room upgrade was appreciated. The staff were also fantastic, especially taking cases to and from the car but (see below) The garden was incredible.

The only thing that was nothing the hotel could have done really just something to note that if you intend to travel into edinburgh it does take a wee while to get there on the bus but nothing too awful!

The staff couldn’t have been lovelier or more accommodating to us! The room was so comfortable and clean and had a nice luxurious feel. The breakfast was absolutely divine and it was such a special stay start to finish.

Previous visit was 2014 which was awesome! It appears with this visit there has been little updating of interior including carpeting, etc. The gardens did not appear to be as well maintained and foleage was not as vibrant as before but they may have to do with weather conditions.

Location was excellent as i played golf at Muirfield that day. Great view of golf course from my caddie closet room! Breakfast was good with timely service

Whats not to like? Amazingly beautiful Lutyens property with great setting next to Muirfield golf course. I was able to book a room at 10pm on a Friday night after another hotel booking had been cancelled by mistake,elsewhere.
